long time ago, before the christianity was brought to our territory and our fathers were loyal to their Slavic gods, there wandered two pilgrims through the local hills. After the long touring they were tired and hungry and moreover it was so dark that they couldn’t see almost anything. The wandered through the dense wallachian forest and they still couldn’t find any place to stay overnight.
And one of those pilgrims told the other: “Climb up this tree and look, if you can see anything.” The guy didn’t hesitate, took his bag off and quickly started climbing up to the treetop and many and many birds of various species flew away of it as he startled them. Then, as soon as he was high enough the creepy and mysterious owlish hooting sunddely sounded through the forest. But the pilgrim, who was sitting high on a branches was completely calm. For a while he was just looking around when all of the sudden he glimpsed something afar. He exclaimed “I see a light!” (“Vizú světlo!”). And the other pilgrim, full of curiosity and joy, climbed up a bigger and higher tree next to the first, looked the same direction and exclaimed to the other pilgrim “And I see more!” (“A já vizú více!”). And on this place there was originated a beautiful place called Vyzovice, later renamed to Vizovice.
And that’s what people of Vizovice say. A legend, which passes through the mouths for many centuries.
